Public schools much needing such funds, perform at a lower level for lack of adequate teaching materiel and the admissions program at Charter schools is an unfair selective process.

However, Charter schools pay teachers less money, have minimal benefits and work teachers to near death. Charter schools also encourage teachers to voluntold a minimum of three days to recruit new students. The high turnover is because unlike traditional schools they often have a union representative that provides legal protection and guaranteed benefits in the form of grievance processes. Charter schools are a breeding ground for hiring family members and friends in “cush” positions that are way overpaid for what they do unlike classroom teachers who are severely overworked and underpaid. The Texas education system as a whole is ripe for fraudsters looking to get family and friends into their management system and short change the students in the process. There should be more oversite financially for every school that receives federal and or state funds. Every school should receive that same amount of money for every student and the school facilities should all be the same quality as every school in the state. Why are salaries different for different areas of the state or country this system is inherently build by the stinking laywers who don’t have a clue as to what teachers actually do and how they do it. Just as all students are expected to meet a standard on state exams. All tax payers should expect a minimum standard for all students regardless of where they happen to live. It should not be about school choice at all, it should be a mandate to have choice schools for all.

Our niece goes to a charter school and they teach her much more than the best public school system, kids going to her charter school exhibit manners and pass have better scores in math, reading, writing, because teachers take more time to help the kid “get it” since the classes are smaller or they have 2 teachers per classroom. There is no comparison with the best public school who can’t even keep teachers and don’t care that kids actually learn, they just get passed to the next grade without merit.

I doubt they’ll do any worse than some public schools. It’ll give aspiring students a potentially better option for a decent education.

As a black mom, I have recognized a HUDE disparity between public and charter school, babel, how my children are treated.
In public school my nd children were treated as if they were incapable of learning. My Astoria children were pushed to the back of the classes and prioritized less as they were seen as too much trouble to educate.
Charter schools looked for their strengths and played on those. They IDENTIFIED my children’s strengths and played on those.
Currently one of my children on the direction is excelling where she was failing before.
If you have the patience, choose a charter.
